SUMMARY:Understanding and Addressing 6G Controversies: Learning from the Past\, Building for the Future - 6G4Society Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Date & Time\n26 March 2025\, 11:00-12:15 CET \n\n\nAbout the webinar\nThis webinar is part of the 6G4Society project\, an SNS JU initiative dedicated to embedding societal and sustainable values into the development of 6G technology. 6G4Society brings a sociological perspective to technological development\, ensuring that future networks align with ethical\, inclusive\, and sustainable principles. By fostering a deeper understanding of public acceptance\, stakeholder concerns\, and the broader societal impacts of 6G\, the project aims to generate transformative discussions and informed decision-making. \nUnderstanding controversies is a critical step in promoting social acceptance. When a new technological system like 6G is introduced\, it does not emerge in a vacuum. Instead\, it reshapes existing structures\, creating both opportunities and challenges for different stakeholders. Identifying and analyzing controversies—examining stakeholder perspectives\, competing claims\, and underlying tensions—is fundamental to fostering trust\, mitigating conflict\, and ensuring a more inclusive and sustainable adoption of 6G. \nControversies are not simply obstacles; they are part of society’s negotiation process over technological change. They reflect broader discussions about governance\, power\, values\, and risk distribution. Engaging with these disputes allows us to anticipate concerns\, address misinformation\, and develop frameworks for a more responsible and widely accepted 6G deployment. \nThis webinar will explore: \n\nWhat we can learn from past controversies\, particularly surrounding 5G\, and how they might evolve with 6G;\nHow technological disputes arise and what role values\, economic interests\, and governance structures play;\nHow stakeholders can engage more effectively with the public to foster trust and transparency;\nHow controversy analysis can contribute to the development of an EU consensus framework for a sustainable and ethical 6G.\n\nBringing together expertise from Science and Technology Studies (STS) and the sociohistory of ICTs\, our panelists will provide insights into the patterns\, dynamics\, and governance of technology controversies and offer strategies for navigating them in 6G development. \nKey Speaker\n\nDr. Ana Delicado – Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Social Sciences (ICS)\, University of Lisbon. Dr. Delicado specializes in the social dimensions of science and technology\, with a strong focus on public perception\, communication\, and participation in technological decision-making. Her work explores how controversies arise in emerging technologies and how public engagement can contribute to more inclusive and responsible innovation. In this webinar\, she will examine the role of scientific and technological controversies in shaping public trust\, policy and acceptance\, highlighting key lessons for 6G.\n\nAgenda\n\nOpening and introduction\nIntroduction to 6G4Society\nThe role of scientific and technological controversies in shaping public trust and policy: key lessons for 6G\nHistory and impact of telecommunications infrastructure: historical patterns and a perspective on the future.\nDebate and exchange on presentations\nQ&A and engagement of participants\n\nTarget Audience\n\nResearchers and professionals in ICT and telecommunications\nSNS-JU projects interested in social acceptance and regulatory challenges\nPolicymakers and regulatory bodies working on future connectivity standards\nSocial scientists and scholars in Science\, Technology & Society (STS)\n\n\n  \nSign up for the webinar here!

SUMMARY:Objective and Subjective Approaches to Key Value Indicators - Sharing methodological approaches and evaluation instruments - 6G4Society & TrialsNet Workshop
DESCRIPTION:What\nWorkshop based in two parts. The first half is presentations from SNS JU projects and external experts. The second half is based on interactive dialogue and active contributions from participants.\n \nWho\nSNS JU Projects working on KVIs \nDate & Time\n6 February 2025\, 10:00-12:20 CET \n\n\nIntroduction\nAs KVIs become further developed and integrated as key components of SNS JU projects\, challenges have emerged around how to identify what is a good measure of a KV\, and how these can look different for subjective and objective evaluations. Key to this is understanding how these approaches and instruments can be different from KPIs and what other methodological resources can be drawn upon in their development. The aim of this workshop is twofold. First\, it will share different approaches being developed in SNS JU projects as well as approaches used by external experts who also pursue indicators of social and sustainability values. Second\, it will break the participants into small groups to work together to explore how what was presented can inform their diverse projects. The idea is to blend expert knowledge with interactive dialogues between SNS projects that are actively working on KVIs. \nObjectives\n\nGather examples of how social and sustainability values can be assessed and evaluated from projects and external experts.\nExplore approaches that look beyond technical KPIs and consider non-technical evaluations of value.\nImprove our understanding and capacity to address these value outcomes in practical terms\, using existing resources.\n\nAgenda\n\nIntroduction\nPart 1 (1h35min): Exploration of subjective and objective approaches to social value that expand the repertoire and skills of projects applying KVIs\, focusing on areas in which projects have expressed challenges.\n30 min: Practical examples of subjective and objective KVIs for social and sustainability values from the SNS projects\, TRIALSNET\, ORIGAMI\, DETERMINISTIC-6G\, FIDAL.\n50 min: Two approaches to identifying and applying social value indicators from External Experts in the field.\n\nYulia Romaschenko\, Technical Director\, Social Value international\nEmad Yaghmaei\, Senior Researcher at TU Delft & Founder\, & Rie Larsen\, Researcher and Strategic Advisor\, YAGHMA\n\n\n15 Min: Q&A\n\n  \n\nPart 2 (45 minutes): Interactive activity that builds on what was presented and explores how these can become useful in projects.\n25 min: MIRO-based hands-on small group activity to engage themes and processes presented in the part 1 to develop concept maps that chart rationale between value for investigation\, research question that drives the indicator\, and results that can be gathered. Participants will be allocated to small breakout groups with a moderator who will guide the activity based on group dynamics and discussions.\n20 min: Q&A\, with guest expert in social value analysis and indicators\, Tim Goodspeed\, to ask questions and help prompt\, push\, confirm and challenge our ideas.\n\n25 min: MIRO-based hands-on small group activity to engage themes and processes presented in the part 1 to develop concept maps that chart rationale between value for investigation\, research question that drives the indicator\, and results that can be gathered. SUMMARY:Embracing Key Values and Key Values Indicators: How can SNS projects drive sustainable change?
DESCRIPTION:An interactive workshop \nJointly Organised by 6G4SOCIETY and FIDAL \n \nEvent Details:  \n\nWhat: Workshop based in interactive dialogue and active contributions from participants. \nWho: Projects working on KVIs \nDate & Time: Friday 25th October\, 10h00-12h30\, Online \n\n  \nIntroduction:  \nAs we are moving towards 6G\, the interaction of humans with technologies is expected to bring unprecedented changes to the way people live and interact. By ensuring societal\, environmental and economic sustainability are addressed from the very early development of 6G\, the ambition of the SNS JU projects is to maximise benefits for individuals\, communities and businesses. This requires projects to anticipate and articulate how\, realistically and practically\, 6G can create positive impact at several levels. Currently\, projects are working with Key Value Indicators (KVIs) to do so.   \nThe main goal of this workshop is to explore 1) how SNS projects are working with KVIs to address these positive impacts\, 2) challenges and best practices in defining and implementing KVIs\, and 3) what are the expected outcomes from using KVIs. The idea is to do this via interactive dialogues and active contributions from partners of ongoing SNS projects that are actively working on KVIs.  \nThis workshop is the first in a series of workshops and webinars on 6G and Sustainability to be organised in collaboration with 6G4Society. This series will take on topics\, such as:  \n\nBuilding consensus on the definitions of a select set of Key Values and related indicators (e.g. inclusivity\, circular economy)\, with external experts and vertical representatives. \n\n\nExploring approaches to validating indicators to value in ways that build public trust. \n\n\nConsidering the potential for interdependent indicators from different areas of sustainability (e.g.\, energy efficiency with inclusivity)\, with external experts. \n\n\nWorking with and moving beyond trade-offs. \n\n\n  \nAbout this Workshop:  \nObjectives:  \n\nGather current approaches to identifying relevant KVIs and objectives within to build a map of how and why different projects (e.g. stream B\, C\, D) approach value prioritisation\, \n\n\nCollect challenges in defining and implementing KVIs to assess further support needs\, \n\n\nShare what works well in projects working with KVIs to collect best practices\, \nClarify the expected impacts of KVI use. \n\nFormat:   \n15 min: Introductory Presentations (6G4S and FIDAL)   \nSetting the scene. Short introduction of 6G4SOCIETY and its role as a CSA in ensuring that societal and sustainable values are embedded in the development of 6G; short overview of the experience in FIDAL in working with KVIs.  \n20 min: Lightning Talks on single biggest challenge and best practice so far in projects   \nInformal Roundtable. Each project will be given 2 minutes to share these two points as highlights.  \n35 min: Interactive Session 1: Current approaches and challenges  \nRepresentatives from SNS projects will work in small breakout groups via collaborative activities to share approaches and challenges with the goal of aligning on the main priorities to produce a view of what has been working well and where more work is needed.  \n5 min: Break   \n35 min: Interactive Session 2: What works well and KVI impact   \nContinuing in small breakout groups\, projects will share what has worked well and collect projects’ understanding of the scope and scale of KVI impact\, seeking to build agreement about how KVIs can be used in the future.  \n30 min: Sharing Results from Breakout Session in Plenary  \n10 min: Wrap Up and Conclusion   \nFor each active session\, participants will be allocated to a small breakout group. Each group will have a moderator that will guide the discussion and that will assign a rapporteur for the group. The rapporteur will report the key discussion points back to the Plenary.   \nOutcomes:  \nA short paper highlighting trends within projects\, best practices\, agreed definitions\, and gaps that need addressing. These outcomes will inform the work in the remainder of the series.  \nPreparation Before Workshop:  \nWe will send out a small set of discussion points to come prepared to discuss and a short poll to organise contributions and gather insights more effectively. No formal presentation preparation is needed. Some examples of questions that will be discussed:  \n\nHow are starting values prioritised in projects?  \n\n\nWho should use the results of KVIs\, and for what?  \n\n\nWhat are the priority challenges projects are facing in defining KVIs? \n\n\nHow should KVIs support projects in addressing the societal and sustainability dimensions of technology in projects?\n\nTarget audience:  \nWe welcome all interested participants to join us in this workshop. We greatly encourage those responsible for KVI development within SNS projects to participate during the breakout sessions to contribute to a rich and productive discussion output.   \n  \nRegister Now!

SUMMARY:3rd Edition of the International Conference on 6G Networking
DESCRIPTION:Welcome\nWe are very pleased to welcome you to the 3rd edition of the International Conference on 6G Networking (6GNet 2024)\, which will be held in Paris\, France\, from October 21 to 24\, 2024! \n6G network research has already started with some initiatives like the 6G Flagship. Besides the (somewhat questionable) speed race\, 6G networking is a tremendous opportunity to investigate and foster research in areas like the need for massive digital inclusion and stronger robustness against attacks of any kind\, among other challenging topics like global network automation and cross-domain service/slice design\, delivery and operation.\n6G networking may also be seen as a true convergence point where the distinction between fixed and mobile infrastructures would not make sense anymore. \nThe research effort in this area of convergence has ignited for quite some time but dramatically progressed with 5G techniques\, possibly combined with others like advanced forwarding schemes (multi-path communication designs) or AI/ML-fueled network automation. \nThis third 6G conference therefore aims at assessing the progress of the various research efforts in areas that will forge 6G networks. \nLooking forward for your submissions and meeting you in Paris! \n  \nAbout The 6G Networking Conference\nThe 6G Networking conference is a recent annual conference that covers advances in the area of 6G network design and management\, encompassing enabling technologies\, architectures and services. \n6G network research has already started with some initiatives like the 6G Flagship. Besides the (somewhat questionable) speed race\, 6G networking is a tremendous opportunity to investigate and foster research in areas like the need for massive digital inclusion and stronger robustness against attacks of any kind\, among other challenging topics like global network automation and cross-domain service/slice design\, delivery\, and operation. 6G networking may also be seen as a true convergence point where the distinction between fixed and mobile infrastructures would not make sense anymore. The research effort in this area of convergence has ignited for quite some time but dramatically progressed with 5G techniques\, possibly combined with others like advanced forwarding schemes (multi-path communication designs) or AI/ML-fueled network automation. \nAs such\, the conference aims at providing a forum for researchers\, students\, and professionals to exchange ideas\, share their experiences\, and discuss advances and challenges for the advent of 6G networks. \n6GNet is now a recognized event in its domain that attracts experts and participants from academy\, governmental bodies and industry. So far\, successive venues have been as follows: \n• 6GNet 2023\, 18-20 October 2023\, Paris\, France \n• 6GNet 2022\, 6-8 July 2022\, Paris\, France

SUMMARY:IEEE Future Networks World Forum
DESCRIPTION:Call for Proposals\n\n\nThe submission deadline for Proposals has been extended to 11 August (FIRM). IEEE FNWF’24 will host a series of sessions featuring topics relevant to the Future Networks community on the latest research\, engineering\, standards\, and business issues. These sessions should provide a venue to present and discuss the state-of-the-art research in both academia and industry on special\, novel\, challenging\, and emerging topics.  Proposals types include \n\nWorkshops\nTutorials\nTopical/Vertical Sessions\nIndustry Forums and Panels\nEntrepreneurship and Innovation Forum\nDemonstrations (Industry or Academic)\n\n  \n\n\n\n\nCall for Papers\n\n\nLocated in Dubai\, UAE\, IEEE FNWF’24 seeks contributions on how to nurture and cultivate future network technologies and applications for the benefit of society. Workshops\, tutorials\, industry forums\, demonstration proposals\, and original\, innovative\, and high-quality papers on the technical topics of Future Networks are solicited. The submission deadline for Technical Track and Symposium Papers has been extended to 31 July (FIRM) \n\n\n\n\n\nWelcome to IEEE FNWF 2024\, Dubai\, UAE\n\n\nThe theme for this global 5G and Beyond event will be focused on the academic and industry work that entails envisioning a highly sophisticated and interconnected digital ecosystem that transcends the capabilities of current networks. It involves picturing a landscape where the Internet seamlessly integrates with cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence\, augmented reality\, and the Internet of Things. In this futuristic network\, data transmission is not only faster and more reliable but also intelligently adaptive\, anticipating user needs and optimizing performance in real-time. Privacy and security mechanisms are robust\, ensuring the protection of sensitive information in an era of increasing digital threats. The Network of the Future is envisioned as a dynamic\, self-learning entity that continuously evolves to meet the ever-growing demands of a hyper-connected world\, fostering innovation\, collaboration\, and efficiency across various domains of human endeavor. As we imagine this network\, we strive to build a foundation that not only supports the evolving technological landscape but also prioritizes ethical considerations\, inclusivity\, and sustainability for a more responsible digital future. \n\n\n\nIn 2018\, the IEEE Future Networks Initiative held the first IEEE 5G World Forum in Santa Clara\, California. This new event brought more than 500 experts from industry\, academia\, and research together to exchange their visions and achieved advances towards 5G and beyond. The conference became an annual event that has grown every year\, including during the COVID pandemic years. \nDuring the virtual 2021 5G World Forum\, seven of the twelve keynotes used the terms “6G” or “Beyond 5G.” It was clear that the conference’s continued success necessitated a name change that is immune to subsequent network generation “G” labeling. IEEE Future Networks had already gone through this process (it was initially called the IEEE 5G Initiative)\, so it made perfect sense to follow our organizer’s lead and rename the conference the Future Networks World Forum starting in 2022. \nWhat has not changed is the mission of this global event or the quality expected from the volunteers that make up the conference’s steering and organizing committees. At the Future Networks World Forum\, you can still expect top-notch presentations across the following categories: \n\nKeynote Talks\nTechnical Paper Presentations\nSymposiums\nWorkshops\nTutorials\nIndustry Forums and Panels\nDemonstrations\nNetworking Sessions\nStudent Programs\n\nEach year typically also features newly introduced special sessions that highlight and showcase the many exciting developments in 5G and Beyond technologies that are occurring in both industry and academia. \nFor our sponsors\, the Future Networks World Forum is an outstanding opportunity to showcase products and applications to an enthusiastic and engaged audience. It provides an ideal platform to reach hundreds of key decision-makers involved in 5G and future network generations. Before COVID rudely interrupted\, our exhibition floor program was growing at an exciting pace with lots of innovative booths to interact with. \nSign up for email alerts to get the latest news and announcements for the 2024 IEEE Future Networks World Forum. SUMMARY:6G Forum
DESCRIPTION:Is it too early to be talking about 6G? The telco industry seems divided into two camps: those investing heavily in 6G R&D\, advocating for a more energy-efficient\, life-enhancing next generation of networks\, and those skeptical about the actual benefits and ROI of 6G\, especially as the industry still seeks to monetize 5G investments. \nBeyond the technological challenges\, commercializing 6G and convincing carriers to invest in this new technology present significant hurdles. RCR Wireless News’ virtual 6G Forum will address not only the question of “how do we do it?” but also “why do we need it?” \n\nJoin the event live on October 1st to join a variety of panel discussions\, presentations and interviews.
