SUMMARY:ACM GoodIT 2025
DESCRIPTION:About\nACM 5th International Conference on Information Technology for Social Good \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nACM GoodIT focuses on the application of information technology for social good. \nSocial good has traditionally been about actions that benefit communities\, like improving education\, healthcare\, and access to connectivity. Today\, it has grown to encompass a global movement—one where technology\, collaboration\, and human ingenuity come together to unlock potential and address society’s most pressing challenges. \nThe 5th edition of ACM GoodIT will take place from 3 to 5 September 2025 in the vibrant city of Antwerp\, Belgium. \n\nKeynote Speaker: Monique Calisti – Founder and President of Digital for Planet\, CEO of Martel Innovate\, and Project Coordinator of 6G4Society. \n“Sustainable Digital Futures: Aligning Societal Values with Environmental Necessities” \nAs digital technologies increasingly shape our world\, we face the dual challenge of ensuring these innovations address pressing environmental concerns while gaining widespread societal acceptance. This keynote explores Digital for Planet’s mission to create sustainable digital solutions that respect planetary boundaries while addressing human needs. Through our portfolio of Horizon Europe projects\, we are pioneering frameworks and methodologies that embed sustainability principles into technological development from inception to implementation.\nThe presentation will highlight our 6G4Society project\, which investigates how next-generation communication networks can be designed with environmental and social sustainability as core requirements rather than afterthoughts. By examining the intersection of technical capabilities\, environmental impacts\, and societal values\, 6G4Society is developing pathways for telecommunications infrastructure that reduces ecological footprints while ensuring digital inclusivity and alignment with diverse community needs.\nThis keynote will share emerging insights on how stakeholders across the technology ecosystem can collaborate to create digital futures that are both environmentally viable and socially embraced—moving beyond technological determinism toward purposeful innovation that serves both people and planet. \n\n

SUMMARY:The 6G4Society project: A conversation with the Dutch FNS 6G Ethics Board
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nIn the mid-1990s\, the Future and Emerging Technologies (FET) programme launched i3 – Intelligent Information Interfaces\, also known as The Disappearing Computer. This visionary initiative brought together engineers\, ethnographers\, designers\, artists\, computer scientists\, and philosophers to explore real-world use cases in schools\, offices\, and hospitals. \nUnfortunately\, the programme was discontinued. Human-centered exploration fragmented into UX\, usability\, and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)\, while technical development followed a separate trajectory—focusing on situated and autonomous computing. This division\, in hindsight\, proved detrimental: \n\nFrom the technical side\, human interaction became an afterthought.\nFrom the HCI perspective\, technical frameworks were accepted as fixed and retrofitted into user contexts.\n\nToday\, we have an opportunity to reunite these paths\, to create connectivity grounded in ethical design and social inclusion. \nWhy 6G?\n6G networks promise higher speeds\, lower latency\, and the capacity to connect many more devices than 5G. These features not only enhance performance and reliability but also create opportunities for: \n\nIncreased energy efficiency\nGreater sustainability\nStronger digital inclusion\nA more resilient\, human-centric digital society\n\nAlthough 6G is expected to be deployed around 2030\, groundwork is already underway\, and the ethics of connectivity must be part of the design process from the start. \nWebinar objectives\n\nPresent 6G as more than just a technical advancement\, but a catalyst for transformative connectivity\nSpark a broad\, cross-disciplinary discussion around the question: What kind of connectivity do we want?\nIntroduce the work of the Dutch 6G Ethics Board and the Future Network Services (FNS) ecosystem\nExplore Key Value Indicators (KVIs) as tools for ethical\, meaningful innovation beyond commercial KPIs\n\nTarget stakeholders\n\nRegional and national regulators\, legislators\, and policy makers\nTelecom companies working on 5G/6G implementation and use cases\nEthnographers\, sociologists\, philosophers\, and others exploring the social impact of tech\nAnyone interested in the emerging triangle of value: IoT\, AI\, and 6G\n\nSession focus\nWe are in a critical five-year window to embed ethics as a core component – not an afterthought – in technical frameworks. Through this discussion\, we aim to: \n\nAlign sustainability\, European values\, and societal impact with network design\nDevelop intuitive\, inclusive digital experiences\nProvide an actionable ethics toolbox for innovators and policymakers\n\nAnticipated outcomes\n\nDeepen our understanding of the ethical and social dimensions of next-generation technologies\nDevelop a shared language to move beyond hype or fear toward meaningful debate\nIntroduce Key Value Indicators (KVIs) as tools for building purpose-driven use cases\nHighlight how European programmes are scaling up ethical innovation in the 6G space\n\nAgenda\nOpening (10 min) \n\nWelcome\, introduction and brief overview of the 6G4Society project by Monique Calisti – Founder and President of Digital for Planet\, CEO of Martel Innovate\, and Project Coordinator of 6G4Society\nLinkedIn\n\nFeatured Contributions (35 min) \n\nAaron van Diepen – TU Delft\, FNS Ethics Board\nProfile\nKatrina Petersen – Senior Research Consultant\, Societal Value at Public Safety Communication Europe (PSCE)\, 6G4Society Project\nLinkedIn\nRepresentative from the FNS 6G Ethics Board\n\nModerated Q&A (10 min) \n\nLed by Rob van Kranenburg – Senior Policy and Communication Expert at Martel Innovate\nLinkedIn\n\nClosing Remarks (5 min) \n\nAnna Aseeva – Policy and Sustainability Expert at Digital for Planet\nLinkedIn\n\n  \nRegister Now!
