6G4Society convenes second External Advisory Board meeting to discuss the latest deliverable on societal aspects in 6G development

On 3 February 2025, the 6G4Society project’s External Advisory Board (EAB) reconvened for its second meeting, further solidifying its role in guiding the project’s strategic vision.

The focus of this session was to present and discuss one of the project’s key deliverables, D1.1 Societal aspects in 6G technology: concerns, acceptance models and sustainability indicators, which explores comprehensive 6G’s societal impact, values, and social acceptance. This milestone provided a strong foundation for engaging the experts in a constructive dialogue on the project’s next steps and long-term impact.

The session commenced with an in-depth presentation of Deliverable D1.1, which explores societal concerns, acceptance models, and sustainability indicators in the development of 6G. The methodology behind the report was detailed, showcasing the rigorous research and stakeholder engagement that shaped its insights. The key findings from the 6G4Society team are the development and use of two main tools for embedding societal values and sustainability into the 6G innovation process: on the one hand a Guideline for Key Values and Key Sustainability Indicators (KVIs and KSIs), and on the other the Social Acceptance of Technology (SAT) framework. The conclusions drawn from D1.1 will serve as a roadmap for aligning 6G innovation with societal needs.

Following the presentation, the EAB members shared valuable insights and suggestions to refine the project’s approach, contributing to a productive and forward-looking discussion. The meeting concluded with a clear set of next steps and action points, including exchanges of further reading materials, additional written remarks from the EAB, and if there is interest and availability, a follow-up meeting dedicated to further discussions on D1.1 will be arranged.
