6G4Society General Assembly: Reflecting on year 1 and planning for the future

The 6G4Society consortium came together to reflect on the first year of the project and plan activities for the future.

The 6G4Society consortium recently met in Brussels to mark the 11th month of the project. Over the course of the two-day General Assembly, the team reflected on the progress made so far and aligned strategies for the second year of the project. Day 1 focused on reviewing key accomplishments and planning for the upcoming year, while Day 2 was dedicated to translating these plans into concrete actions.

Day 1: Celebrating Key Achievements

Chiara Mazzone, from the SNS-JU office, joined the consortium partners on Day 1 to provide valuable feedback on the project’s alignment with sustainability and societal values, underscoring the importance of these objectives as the project progresses. The day’s discussions highlighted several major milestones, including the presentation of the Citizen Survey results, which offered public insights on 5G and 6G technology, the launch of the Information Package for Non-Experts, which can be found here, and the publication of the first whitepaper titled “Towards a Sustainable and Socially Accepted 6G for Society.” Other key highlights included deeper engagement with EU policymakers and industry leaders, along with progress on the Social Acceptance of Technology (SAT) Model.

Day 2: Aligning for Year 2 and Beyond

On Day 2, the focus shifted to converting strategic plans into actionable steps for the upcoming year. The partners worked collaboratively to align efforts, with discussions centring on the challenges and opportunities in embedding Key Value Indicators (KVIs) and Key Sustainable Indicators (KSIs) into the 6G technological design process. Greater emphasis was placed on defining exploitable outcomes and exploring the long-term impact and broader applicability of the project’s results, both within the SNS community and beyond. The consortium also reviewed several upcoming initiatives, including workshops, webinars, and other efforts aimed at increasing public engagement.

Looking Ahead

With clear objectives for the coming months, 6G4Society is poised to deepen its engagement with stakeholders across various sectors. The consortium remains committed to advancing the work initiated in Year 1 while driving collaboration and innovation to create a sustainable, socially accepted 6G.
